Hermann Moritz, Count of Saxony was a legitimate son of of Elector Frederik August I of Saxony (1670-1733) and Maria Aurora of Königsmarck (1662-1728).

Moritz was known as the Marschall von Sachsen or Maréchal de Saxe since he was more often on the battlefield than anywhere else, mostly fighting for the French.
