In the present painting Francesco Bassano adopts, with small modifications, the composition invented by his father Jacopo, circa 1575, now in the Nrodni Gallery, Prague (see A. Ballarin, Jacopo Bassano Scritti 1964-1995, I, 1995, fig. 127 and 135).
