The Leconte de Floris, Saint-Cyrien and Captain of the Armée Impériale, was sent, among other French officers, by Louis-Philippe to Egypt as envoys to thank Mehmet Ali who had authorised, as part of an agreement, the Obelisque to be brought to the Place de la Concorde, Paris.
