Lot Essay

According to Vose Galleries: "Frank W. Benson's The Beach Looking West was painted during a trip the artist made to the Bahamas in the winter of 1922. A group of watercolors from that trip were exhibited at the Guild of Boston Artists the following May. Dubbed by one reviewer, 'the Jewels of Nassau,' the show was a tremendous critical and financial success."

The present work will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the artist's work being compiled by Vose Galleries of Boston.
