The Galleria Palatina was opened to the public in 1833 to display the collections of the Grand Dukes of Tuscany. The ceilings of the Sala dell'Iliade, one of the six main rooms of the gallery, were painted with scenes illustrating Homer by Sabatelli. Visible in the present drawing are, among others, Andrea del Sarto's Assumption of the Virgin, Veronese's Baptism of Christ, and Lorenzo Bartolini's sculpture of Charity.
