The present lot was executed as a souvenir of a trip to Luxembourg the artist made together with P.G. van Hecke.
In 1922 Frits van den Berghe settled near Sint-Martens-Latem, together with Gustave De Smet. They shared a house that belonged to P.G. van Hecke, the art gallery proprietor who had them both under contract. This was a period of great stability in Van den Berghe's artistic development.
To be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonn on the artist's work, currently being prepared by Patrick Derom, Gilles Marquenie and Piet Boyens.
