Details
GARIBALDI, Giuseppe (1807-1882). Two autograph letters signed and two letters signed to officials of various associations of working men, one in Naples, all written at Caprera, 7 September 1868 - 17 August 1880, 2 pages, 8vo in autograph, one autograph envelope addressed to Luigi Cattani in Milan (slit open at sides, worn); 2 pages, 8vo, in an unidentified hand (slightly discoloured, some wear).
Acceptances for honorary memberships and titles ('Accetto l'onorevole incarico di Presidente onorario conferitomi dalle varie classi operai da loro Signori presiedute'). Garibaldi withdrew to Caprera in 1861, and was elected to many left wing groups over the following years. He maintained a large correspondence with workers' and patriotic women's groups. Severe rheumatism affected his right hand, making writing very difficult by the 1870s, as indicated by the shaky writing of the letter to Cattani in 1880.
