Lot Essay

Genrich Pavlovsky was born on 15 October 1907 in the Ukranian village Kamensky. After studying at Vitebsk Art College, he went to the St. Petersburg Repin Academy of Arts, where he was taken into Alexandr Aleksandrovich Osmerkin's masterclass. His diploma work won the Repin Prize, and now hangs in the Russian Museum.
