Lot Essay

Founded in 1440 by Henry VI, Eton boasts a spectacular chapel, built in three stages from 1449 to 1460, and 1469 to 1475, and an antechapel built between 1479 and 1482. The chapel is seen in the background of Pyne's watercolour, with Eton College and Eton bridge to the fore.
