A Roman Triumph with Prisoners following a General

signed 'Servandony'; black chalk, pen and black ink, heightened with white and red bodycolour on brown prepared paper
360 x 636mm.

Lot Essay

Servandony was a man of many talents. He exhibited at the Academy from 1737 to 1765; and was also a decorator and organiser of fire-works: he travelled all over Europe, producing decorations for opera houses. As an architect, he won the 1732 competition for the façade of Saint Sulpice in Paris.
The present drawing might be a modello for a relief of a temporary triumphal arch.
