FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, PRESENTATION COPY inscribed to Mrs. Locker Lampson on the half-title page: "Mrs. Locker Lampson from Kate Greenaway 1888." Kate Greenaway, who was introduced to Frederick Locker Lampson in 1880 through the engraver Edmund Evans, was an intimate friend of his and his family's for many years and a constant visitor to their homes. Always encouraging of her talents, Locker Lampson took a great interest in Kate's career, and it was he who introduced her to Robert Browning and his sister in 1882. Schuster & Engen 157.1a.
