This was one of Helen Allingham's earliest watercolours. The scene was one of several painted during her honeymoon at Lynmouth in August 1874. The watercolour is possibly that which was exhibited at the Fine Art Society, London, 1891, no. 77, At Lynmouth, looking down towards the harbour.
