Lot Essay

According to a photograph in the Witt library, London, the picture was signed with monogram 'HP' when it was in the possession of R.H. Ward. In the sale catalogue of 1934 it was described as having traces of a signature.

The present picture is sold with a certificate by Dr. Walther Bernt, dated 12 December 1973, as signed with monogram.
