First edition of a collection of sermons by the mystic Franciscan, in a contemporary binding. Henrik Herp studied at Leuven, and was later associated with the Brethren of the Common Life. Median folio (331 x 236mm). 408 leaves. Printed in red and black. Red initials, some with flourishes, and red paragraph marks and capital strokes, woodcut printer’s device in red (some worming, worse at ends, occasional fingersoiling and stains). Contemporary Bamberg blindstamped pigskin over wooden boards [Kyriss 006, EBDB w000078, Bamberg Minoritenkloster], flyleaves from vellum manuscript antiphonal, brass catchplates with sphinxes, straps (hinges repaired and tight, endpapers renewed, wormed). Provenance: erased inscription on first leaf – acquired from Lathrop C. Harper, Inc, New York, 27 March 1956.
