The present watch is a fine example of a so-called Royal presentation watch, set with the portrait of King Wilhelm III of England (1650-1702), made for his household and given as gift to dignitaries or friends of his Majesty. The wandering hour mechanism was particularly popular during the late 17th/early 18th century.
Henry or Henri Massy (1682-1745) was a member of the renowned watchmaker family Massy of Blois. Born in Blois, he moved to London around 1681 where he got admitted to the Clockmaker's company in 1692. Henry Massy was active as master watchmaker at Charles Street, St. James', London.
