拍品專文

In 1910 Ponting's first book In Lotus-Land Japan was published. Ponting visited Japan many times in order to compile material for this book. H.J.P. Arnold wrote 'The standpoint of the book was a clear one. Ponting was a fervent admirer of the Japanese people and - even more - of their country.....The three aspects of Japan which most intrigued him - the countryside and particularly Mount Fuji, its women, and its craftsmen and artists - figured prominently in the hundred or so photographs which were included.'
