HM Borges, B Bual 1780
Madeira
Recorked in March 2021. New wax capsules. Stencilled bottle with back label and neck hanger certificate of recorking by Ivo Couto (HM Borges cellar master). Level: into-neck
Tasting note: High toned, minty aroma, fine milk chocolate, vegetable notes followed by richer honey cake aromas. Expressive and intriguing. Balsamic. Revealing an extended cask aging.
Medium sweet, expanding mouthfeel, quite creamy and soft. Refined seductively styled sweetness. On the after taste a nice touch of the wood aging aromas appear in an extract rich way with touch of alcohol on the final. Very good Bual.
On the after taste a touch mintyness, on the verge of tiger balm, over intense fruits. Intriguing complexity here. Very good character and length.
48 hours after initial opening I had the chance to retaste this wine to see how the wine has developed. Now definitely more open; Waxy balsamic nose, impressive depth and concentration still with a rich expression. Old wood, honey cake. Very soft gentle expanding mouth filling taste so seductive and full of energy.
On the finish an unfolding aroma, super seductive yet so intriguingly structured. This is a top class 18th century Madeira. An amazing, great wine with a dreamlike complexity. April 2021 tasted at the Borges lodge in Funchal. Edwin Vos
