Laid-in are 3 Autograph Letters, signed, from Howard to Raymond Mortimer, written from La Napoule [1929-1930], 6 pages 4°, urging him to join the goings-on at the Boeuf in Cannes, and reporting: “There is the most entrancing local wine at 7d a bottle”. With 2 Typed Letters and incomplete Autograph Letter to John Davenport, 1947 and N.D. Howard solicits assistance in contractual complexities, and remarks “nobody can really possibly be very fond of me. I wouldn’t be fond of myself, I don’t think”. Also Autograph Letter, 2 Autograph Cards, 6 Typed Letters from Marie-Jacqueline Lancaster to Davenport, 1965, concerning the scope and growth of the book.
