From the famous series dating from October 1747 comprising 12 plates, telling the story of two apprentices, one idle and one industrious. The idle Jack takes to crime and eventually re-encounters Francis once more, when he appears before the Magistrate, once his fellow apprentice. The handkerchief was printed after Hogarth and his widow's death, when the prints were out of copyright.
