Lot Essay

Yeats spent his early years between London and Co. Sligo, the latter being where his mother's family lived. This gave Yeats the opportunity to see and experience the great contrast between the industrious capital city and nature. In the 1890s he officially moved to Co. Sligo, and although this proved unsuccessful (he returned less than twenty years later), Ireland remained a strong source of influence on Yeat's artistic style, and subject matter.
