[JACKSON, Andrew]. Manuscript copy of Jackson's orders to Brigadier General Isaac Roberts, Commanding the Tennessee Volunteers, Head Quarters, Fort Strothers [Alabama], 31 January 1814. 2 pp., folio, note of Genl. Roberts appended at end of page 2 and verso. JACKSON'S SALUTE TO THE TENNESSEE CREEK WAR VOLUNTEERS. At the end of the Creek War (1813-1814) Jackson orders Roberts to march the Tennessee Volunteers to Fort Deposit and by "the nearest route" back to Fayetteville, Tenn., to be "mustered out of service." He adds that "these brave men tendered their services at a very important crisis...at a time when I was left almost without men...For their patriotism they deserve well of their country...[O]n the late expedition against the Creek and on the heights of Emuckfaw in two engagements many distinguished themselves, many fell and nobly bled...They have done important service to their country..." The transcript is on paper which is contemporary with Jackson's order.
