An illustration to Act I, scene 2 of La Cecchina, ossia La Buona Figliuola by Niccolò Piccinni (1728-1800), written in 1760 and based on an adaptation of Richardson's Pamela by Goldoni. Supposedly written in only eighteen days, the opera, a masterpiece of sentimental comedy, conquered Europe. The drawing is dated by Neil Jeffares to 1785.
