Lot Essay

Parmentier was probably born in Paris where he trained under Lafosse. He first came to England between 1676 and 1677, where he worked as an assistant to a number of decorative painters. Between c.1701 and 1721 he was working in Yorkshire as a portrait painter before moving to London where he remained until his death.
