Formerly in an American private collection, the owner inherited the painting from her aunt who lived in India from 1965-1973.

Lot Essay

Lots 250 and 251 are early examples of Jamini Roy's Post-Impressionist paintings clearly inspired by the work of Vincent van Gogh. By the 1920s, he abandoned Western painting styles in favor of the aesthetics developed from traditional Indian folk and village arts.
