We are grateful to Dr. H.-U.Beck for confirming the attribution on the basis of photographs. In his monograph (1973, loc. cit.), Dr. Beck notes the existence of an old copy of this composition, on canvas, sold from the collection of W.E.S. Erle-Drax; Christie's, London, 21 March 1919, lot 159, and recorded by Hofstede de Groot as his no. 259.
