See colour illustration G. Marlier (op.cit., p. 120) dates the present lot in the period 1890-1894, when the artist was working in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert. In these years he took up the theme of the barn interiors again, but in contrast to his earlier works from the 1860's and 1870's, he eliminated all details, only concentrating on the contours and the effect of light.
