drypoint, circa 1755, a very good impression of this rare print, printing with considerable burr, with thread margins, a minor nick in the paper surface to the right of the easel, occasional minor soft creasing, a skinned spot on the reverse at the lower left corner, otherwise in very good condition, laid at the upper sheet corners to an old paper support

Previous studies of Liotard's printed work have given this print to Liotard. However, in their recently published monograph, François Roethlisberger and René Loche argue that it is in fact by the English printmaker Thomas Worlidge (1700-66).
