The hindquarters of a horse in a stable, with a study of a leg (recto); A horse drawing a carriage (verso)

The attribution was confirmed by Lorenz Eitner on the basis of a photograph in a letter dated 19 September 2000. Professor Eitner dates the drawing to 1821-3 and describes it as 'a characteristic example of Gericault's horse portraiture from this period in his career'. He compares the sketch of the draught horse on the verso of the present sheet to the series of lithographs and drawings dating from the same period.
