4° (245 x 192mm). 32 folding engraved maps by Jefferys, the frontispiece map hand-coloured in outline. (Frontispiece and title browned at margins, some marginal browning to other maps and text leaves, map of Cuba with 35m. tear near gutter.) Contemporary half calf and marbled boards (a little bowed, upper joints cracked, spine frayed at head, corners bumped).

A SUBSTANTIAL PUBLICATION by Jefferys who 'is remembered in particular for some of the most important eighteenth-century maps of the Americas, a series given cohension and impetus by the preliminary hostilities and eventual outbreak of the Seven Years' War (ODNB). The charts in the present work were based on captured Spanish originals. Neither the compiler of the text nor the 'gentlemen' who had responsibility for revising it have been identified. Sabin 35959.
