Lot Essay

The first confrontation between a British and American frigate and reportedly the time when the Constitution earned her name of 'Old Ironsides'. After a gallant fight Capt. James Dacres of the British Guerriere was forced to surrender to the American Capt. Isaac Hull. The British ship was so damaged that it was destroyed by Hull.
