The label on the verso of the present watercolour reveals its illustrious provenance. Sir William Agnew, M.P. for South-East Lancashire was responsible for developing his father Thomas's art business into a leading art dealership. His eldest son, Sir George William Agnew (1852-1941), M.P. for Salford West (1906-1918), joined the firm in 1874, and in 1878 married Fanny Bolton. Their daughter Cicely married Norman Froggatt Kingzett, M.B.E. (d. 1947), and is presumably the 'Mrs Kingzett' to whom this watercolour once belonged.
