Lot Essay

The present works were for Alan Ross's book, Time Was Away: A Notebook in Corsica, which was published in 1948, with illustrations by Minton and the spine and typography designed by Keith Vaughan. Minton went to Corsica with Alan Ross, and the resulting book became, as Frances Spalding states, 'a cult book among illustration students' (see F. Spalding, Dance till the Stars Come Down, London, 1991, pp. 109-114).
