Lot Essay

Glogue, a small village in Pembrokeshire, was famous for many years for the slate slabs from its quarry. The present work, dated 1981, gives the title as 'ex-slate quarry'. It was the varied landscape of Pembrokeshire which appealed so strongly to Piper and which had led him in 1961 to buy a cottage at Garn-Fawr as a holiday home and studio.
