Lot Essay

As John Harris has kindly pointed out, there is a facial likeness between this portrait and the portrit of William Kent by Benedetto Luti, painted in Rome in 1718, and the portrait by Bartholomew Dandridge (private collection), which is illustrated in J. Kerslake, Early Georgian Portraits, London, 1977, no.444.
