Entries for Dr. Smith and his wife appear in John Wood Dodge's account book for April 1830 for Dr. Smith, and April 1831 for "Mrs. Dr. Smith." Dodge charged the Smiths $15.00 for each portrait miniature.
John Wood Dodge worked as a portrait miniature artist in New York City. His account books provide the most complete record of his sitters. He was also a member of the National Academy, and Andrew Jackson was among his most famous sitters.
