FIRST EDITION. Strahan took only a week to print the 500 copies, published on 16 January, 1770, at one shilling. The first of four political pamphlets which Johnson wrote out of friendly empathy with Henry Thrale, MP for Southwark, The False Alarm is a vigorous defense of the decision of the House of Commons to reject the election of John Wilkes by the Middlesex voters.
