José Vento began drawing as a child during an extended period of convalescence. He went on to study at the San Carlos Fine Arts School, Valencia, and the San Fernando Fine Arts School, Madrid. At the beginning of 1960 he joined the 'Hondo Group' and developed a neo-figurative art along with Juan Genovés and Fernando Mignoni. From figurative very intimate scenes full of light, he turned his interests to Abstraction, where geometry and the strong presence of matter became the defining features of his personal expressionistic pictorial language.
