Tomlinson, refusing to review for the Nation: 'Forgive me my negative, and the typed letter, and all my sins, mentionable and unmentionable, of which you may perchance be aware. I am no good at writing about other men's work; I have my mind very full of my own; and there is still another reason for my hedge-hoggish attitude to your friendly request ....'
