The Valley of Jehoshaphat (or Josaphat) near Jerusalem, the site of several important ancient Jewish tombs including those known as the Tomb of Absalom (on the right) and the Tomb of St. James (on the left).

As in the previous lot, Girault de Prangey here appears to favour the harsh rocky landscape with its gaping caverns, rather than the detail of the tombs themselves. There are three daguerreotypes in the archive showing views of the Valley of Jehoshaphat. Each is quite different.
