Lot Essay

A whole-plate view of part of the impressive colonnade and high podium of the Temple of Bacchus, which was situated close to and just south of the slightly larger Temple of Jupiter. The south west corner is at the back of the building but it was in the deep porch at the front that there was a double colonnade which is what seems to be in evidence here, implying this is possibly the south east face of the temple.
