Lot Essay

F. Kuyvenhoven (exhib. catalogue Den Bosch, 1988) dates this to circa 1808 on the basis of a comparison with the artist's signed view at Tours in the Rijksprentenkabinet, Amsterdam (inv.no. N2926) which is dated 1808, although the size of the present lot and that of the previous lot in this sale suggest that they may have been a pair, and indicates a dating to after 1812 for the present landscape.
