2° (310 x 210mm). Title, two leaves of dedication and 206 leaves, 6 folding (collation irregular but apparently complete), 412 woodcut illustrations of horses, bridle bits and other horse furniture, with manuscript captions throughout in German (tear at fold of two leaves, small tear and cropping at f.200, minor burnhole in q3). Contemporary sheep over paperboards, tooled in blind, central stamp in gilt on upper cover of a galloping horse (rubbed and worn).

First and only? edition of this work. Very rare, listed in Huth, appendix p.313; not in BMC, NUC or Adams. The author describes himself as a Sporner (i.e. a provider of spurs for horses) and as a citizen of Augsburg. With its 412 designs for harnesses and bits this must be one of the largest compilations of its kind. Many of the bits are extremely elaborately designed, as much for decoration as for use, the caption indicating their purpose and the kind of horse for which they are intended.

Bound in at end, contemporary with the printed book, are 52 leaves in manuscript, headed 'Von erkantnus guter pfert', mostly dealing with veterinary medicine and all kinds of problems and ailments concerning horses. One recipe 'Ein Kunst die Pferde zu ferbenn' explains how one can change a horse's colour. There are references to remedies suggested by Graf Görgeny.
