[LINCOLN -- ASSASSINATION]. BEDEE, Edwin E., Captain 12th N.H. Volunteers. Autograph letter signed to Brig. Genl. M.R. Patrick, Provost Marshall, Head Qrs., New Manchster, VA, 8 May 1865. 1 page, 4o. A WRONGFUL ARREST. Bedee explains that he had been placed in charge of delivering all of the papers found on the body of President Lincoln to Secretary of War Stanton, which duty he performed, even signing the seal around the packet. General Hardie, through some administrative error, had authorized an arrest warrant for Bedee in the name of Stanton, later revoked. [With:] STANTON, Edwin M.
