Lot Essay

A wardrobe of an almost identical model was supplied by Gillows to Earl Manvers in August 1820, different only in having reeded bun feet (Gillows E.S. Sketch Book, job no. 3063, which also illustrates the design). The Manvers wardobe remained at Thoresby Hall until being sold in Sotheby's house sale, 1-2 June 1989, lot 457L.
