Inlaid overall with geometric banding, the rectangular top with cavetto cornice above two short and six long drawers, the secretaire-drawer with hinged front fitted with drawers and pigeon-holes flanking a pair of concave-fronted doors inlaid with cruciform motifs, on later ogee bracket feet; and a biography of Jemmy Wood, a lottery advertising sheet and a Staffordshire style figure of Jemmy Wood

Jemmy Woods was a famous early 19th Century Gloucester draper and banker. His fame was spread by wrangles over his will that followed his death in 1836. His meanness was legendary. By tradition this secretaire was the one he used for his personal finances.
