CENTRAL ANATOLIA, MID 19TH CENTURY

The deep brick-red mihrab with an attenuated angular flowering branch beneath a sky-blue leafy vine-filled arch and above a pale walnut-brown arcaded tulip blossom cross pattern, in a medium indigo border of polychrome rosettes and angular meandering vine between walnut-brown and brick-red floral meander vine guard stripes, light wear, areas of repiling and repair, minor partial sides now bound, partial end borders with outer guard stripes attached now bound
Approximately 6ft. x 3ft. 9in. (183cm. x 145cm.)

Warp: white wool, Z2S, considerably depressed, slightly undulating
Weft: two shoots, red and reddish wool, the first slightly undulating, the second strongly undulating
Pile: wool, Z2, knots symmetrical inclined to the left, H2.9 x V5.4/cm.
