A KULA PRAYER RUG
WEST ANATOLIA, EARLY 19TH CENTURY
Having an unusual design with a celadon arched reserve containing polychrome rectilinear palmettes flanked by flowerheads beneath a maize-yellow latch-hook and leaf-filled arch all above a large maize-yellow arcaded tulip blossom reserve, in a deep butter-yellow border of polychrome rosettes and angular meander vine, partial ends, wear, minor repairs
Approximately 4ft. 8in. x 3ft. 6in. (142cm. x 107cm.)
Warp: wool, white, Z2S, lower end greenish, strongly undulating
Weft: two types; a) 2-3 shoots, wool, red, Z1 b) 1 shoot, wool, red, Z1; 2 x Z1, blue; Z2S white
Pile: wool, Z1, symmetrical inclining to the right, H2.1 x V2.8/cm.
Sides: Foundation shoot bound together with three additional warp threads, with a further fastening of red, Z1, and white and green, Z2S wool shoots.
Remarks: supplementary shoots, in the selvages partly displaced knotting.
