A KULA PRAYER RUG
WEST ANATOLIA, MID 19TH CENTURY
The royal blue arched prayer panel with a central column of vases issuing stellar flowerheads, on a light blue field with small floral motifs, a brown latticed cross-panel above, in an ivory border of small polychrome floral motifs between lemon-yellow and brown floral stripes, areas of wear, selvages rebound with slight losses, ends repiled
Approximately 5ft.8in. x 3ft.9in. (142cm. x 114cm.)
Warp: white wool Z2S, depressed, strongly undulating
Weft: for the most part 2 shoots light brown wool, Z1, one undulating, the other more so; at times a single shoot of unplied Z2-3 wool similarly coloured
Pile: wool Z1, symmetrical inclining to the left, H2.1 x V3.0/cm.
Remarks: lazy lines
