EAST TURKESTAN, LAST QUARTER 19TH CENTURY
The lilac field with an eau-de-nil roundel medallion enclosed by a ring of butterflies and maze-work spandrels centered by lilac and eau-de-nil square reserves each containg a small central roundel ringed by flowerheads and maze-work spandrels, all within a triple inner lilac and eau-de-nil swastika maze-work border, a lilac rosette middle border and a stylized wave-and-cloud outer border, low even wear, repiled oxidized browns, two repaired fold slits, a vertical slit upper end, small rewoven area lower end, minor areas of tinting, missing outer guard stripe either end
Approximately 12ft.6in. x 6ft.8in. (382cm. x 204cm.)
Warp: white cotton Z2S, at edges slightly depressed and slightly undulating, generally considerably depressed and undulating
Weft: 3 shoots, ivory Z9 cotton, sometimes brown wool Z1 in the first and third undulating shoots, second shoot stronger undulating
Pile: wool, Z2, in yellow and voilet Z2-3, asymmetrical open to the left, H2.6 x V2.1/cm.
Sides: additional light blue wool yarn Z6 wound around two additional warps, main warps sometimes bound flat woven with the two additional warps, sometimes running between the two additional warps and the outermost knotted warp, passing over the weft bindings
