Lot Essay

Barye's model Charles VII Le Victorieux first appeared listed in the sculptor's 1838 catalogue, as No. 71, Le Roi Charles VII, at a price of 230 Francs. The model belongs to Barye's popular series of equestrian portraits executed during the early part of his career.
